Upstream Solutions Inc. is currently seeking qualified candidates for a DCI Engineer for Suncor Energy for an approximate 12-month term. This position will report to the Well Design Team Lead. Successful candidate will be required to work onshore with possible offshore visits during operations. The approximate start date is May 1, 2017.
The Drilling Engineer (DE) reports to the East Coast Well Design Team Lead and is responsible for the technical performance of the Company's drilling activities within the asset. The DE will be responsible for design and safe execution of well construction activities, in a manner consistent with the Suncor Operational Excellence Model (OEMS). The DE is responsible for writing technically rigorous, safe, regulatory compliant and efficient well drilling programs in accordance with Suncor's Code of Business Conduct, established procedures and E&P DCI standards and policies. Incumbents in this position will perform all aspects of well design including; Casing and Tubing Design, Mud Systems, Fluid Hydraulics, Primary and Remedial Cementing, Specialized Technical Software, Offshore Operations, Well Control, etc. The DE will lead large groups of diverse individuals through complex operational and design processes. The DE will also be responsible for managing change to the operations programs using approved EC processes.
Excellent interpersonal skills - must be able to communicate at all levels and work in a team environment; Computer skills; Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Physical Science or Mathematics; Service company or oil company drilling or completions operations.
Develop proficiency with all technical software, specifically related to drilling engineering software. Develop expertise in one of the major sub-disciplines of Drilling Engineering such as Completions, Subsea, Directional or etc.; For each well confirms casing/tubing stress analysis, mud/hydraulics programs, cementing program, collision avoidance criteria and etc.; Prepare planning documentation (basis of design, Drilling Program) as well as Regulatory Approval documentation (ADW); Prepare End of Well Report which details cost analysis, operation analysis and provides recommendations for continuous improvement; Prepare technical specifications to be used in RQF's for materials and equipment used in the offshore operations; Stays abreast of current technology and Best Practices within and industry wide and recommends the application of new technology; Prepare management of change and proact entries; Analyze Performance measures for the following functions:
Subsea Services Drilling Fluid Directional Drilling Cementing
Casing Running Fishing Tools Mud Logging
Time/Cost vs Depth Curves
Monitor other East Coast Drilling Operations
Position will have the responsibility to recommend equipment which may cost >$500,000 on significant projects that are in excess of $50,000,000; Plans regulatory compliance.
Authority and accountability to advise operational leader to stop work and/or to test for and ensure readiness (full understanding, competency, safety, regulatory compliance, policy compliance, environmental protection); Empowered to take immediate action to protect people, environment, asset, or reputation; Programs and manuals are available at BU level, however many decisions require an intelligent interpretation of the problem in light of past experiences; Advises immediate superior of situations as they occur, proactively offering way forward;
Position is onshore in the planning stage, and occasional rig site supervision during execution. The ability to cope with irregular stressful working conditions, and cope with varying situations is required. Physical demands are moderate but good physical condition is required.
