Upstream Solutions Inc. is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Wellsite Geologist located located both onshore and offshore NL.
The well site geologist will be the offshore liaison for the onshore operations Geologist and will be required to provide daily drilling updates, detailed description and evaluation of drill cuttings from each well, provide input to assist the onshore RMT geologist and offshore teams to make key operational decisions such as casing point, formation evaluation, bit trips, etc.
The primary deliverable of the well site geological services is to provide a description of drill cuttings and hydrocarbon show identification evaluation incorporating visual observations, microscopic examination, and natural fluorescence of all applicable samples. The sample description should contain visual description, breakdown percentage, porosity estimation, trace particles, and any evidence of mechanical or bit wear. Evaluation of gas hydrocarbon and its constituents, basic chemical and mechanical parameters of drilling fluid or drilling mud as well as drilling parameters will be incorporated. Where possible LWD may be used to verify the sample description interval, but should not be used as primary tool. The well site geologist will be required to perform lag checks to ensure samples and gases are recorded at the correct drilled depth.
Show evaluation includes evaluating natural fluorescence for all samples as well as gas detection (Cl to CS). Cut fluorescence evaluated for suspected hydrocarbons and to include cut speed, colour of cut fluorescence and colour of the residual ring, as well as type and intensity. If possible, estimate inferred porosity from intergranular pore spaces from the coarse cuttings. Coarse cuttings are best for show evaluation since they are least affected by SBM. Gas evaluation will include drilling gases and all circulated gases such as trip gas, swab gas, etc. The well site geologist will maintain communication with the mud loggers to ensure the integrity of the gas system is maintained throughout the drilling process.
